Who is it for?
vicinities is for curators and producers working in the contemporary Visual Arts sector on the island of Ireland. This includes, but is not exclusive to: cultural producers, curators, arts managers, administrators, directors, independent cultural workers, as well as those within institutions.
How can I join?
vicinities is a free, membership based network. To apply, please fill out this form with a little information about yourself. The point of applying is to understand your intentions and background, and how you wish to be involved. Within a few days, you will receive a welcome email with further logistical information and how to contribute to and access the resources.
The network is based on a mutual exchange of time and information, so the more we participate, the more meaningful our exchange can be. We don’t expect 100% attendance, but a genuine interest is mandatory.
What do I get and give?
- Meetings: You are welcome to attend events and meetings as frequently as you like.
- Curatorial Library: Offering access to a network of personal libraries, we invite all the members to contribute texts (digital and printed) and publications they are willing to share with each other. A shared resource comprising these will be made available exclusively to the vicinities members.
- Curatorial Shed: You are invited to share your time with the other members, in exchange for their time. This will work through the Curatorial Shed, which will comprise its members skills and time. In order to avail of borrowing from this ‘shed’, a member must also be willing to return a contribution.
- Online: a members WhatsApp chat to make plans, set up meetings, share events and exhibitions, and request and exchange materials. If you don’t use WhatsApp, an email can be shared in the group.
When will we meet?
Regular vicinities meeting will take place in person on a triannual basis, at times with invited guest speakers, including an annual event celebrating the year.
Members can choose to attend any and all meetings. Members are encouraged to meet each other outside of the vicinities capacity to develop collaborations, partnerships, work on applications, even mentorships, or just friendships.
In addition, we can continue our conversation outside of this period through online connectivity, exchanging advice and resources, and to accommodate members outside of the capital.
We will announce the time and place of our first meeting soon.
